20 Oct 2010 - More experienced staff join COOE
Ilona Weir (Senior Ecologist) and Agnes Catin (Environmental Scientist - Marine Biology) have joined the COOE team. Ilona is alreay in the field sampling soils and undertaking rehabilitation monitoirng in Telfer Mine WA.

COOE has the capability for undertaking towed video transects to rapidly generate marine habitat maps. The technique is very cost effective since it significantly reduces the need for divers using traditional practices and the risk of decompression sickness. Andrew Kober (M.Sc. zooology) joins the COOE team as a casual contractor.

* Sean is up at Telfer on secondment helping with the in house audits, dingo management and other fun stuff that one does out in the bush. The Rehabilitation monitoring at Telfer is ongoing, the remote soil moisture data acquisition is working well. We will be going back in October to do more site monitoring using Ecosystem Function analysis methods and soil chemistry.
* Joe, James and Ben have just returned from a pleasant assignment for Wave Rider Energy Project in Elliston mapping seabed habitats at 30 meters! Saw great waves, whales but no sharks on this trip.
* Anna is working between two projects at Australian Zircon and Telfer including four days a month helping AZ with the environmental tasks and preparing the Annual Environmental Reports for Telfer and AZ.
* The tree planting work at Terramin Angas Zinc Mine is complete for this year. Kevin and Jake are going up to Nyrstar in Port Pirie for direct seeding native grass and saltbush species. If the rabbits can be controlled we will be planting trees at the
* Joe and Francisco have finalised the fish and invertebrate larval study for the desalination plant proposed for the Olympic Dam Extension EIS.
