Joe Mifsud: Managing Director - Principal Environmental Scientist

joe mifsud web pixJoe has over 30 years experience in environmental science and project management with a hands-on approach to deliver practical and cost effective solutions to environmental challenges.

Joe has worked in all facets of the mining and energy industry from start-up to site closure and managed difficult assignments such as the $US 30 million cleanup of a major tailings spill (Marcopper, Philippines). He has also worked as a specialist mining adviser to the World Bank in the remediation of the Zambian Copperbelt mines and smelters.
Joe's specialist experience is in environmental impact assessment, site remediation, mine rehabilitation and revegetation, submarine tailing disposal, marine investigations, environmental chemistry, coordinating specialist projects, staff training, risk assessments and developing practical control measures to protect the environment.
Joe has well developed skills in developing programs, team building and staff training in Australia and Internationally (Zambia, the Philippines, PNG, Canada and Saudi Arabia). His genuine approach and passion for sharing knowledge has helped build our Client's staff confidence and empowered them undertake environmental work confidence.

Sean Steed: Director - Professional Recruitment - Senior Environmental Manager

seanSean has over 13 years' hands on experience in environmental management with special interest in site rehabilitation and Ecosystem Function Analysis (EFA) on rehabilitated landforms.

Sean is very systems savvy and has helped several clients upgrade and implement environmental management systems. Sean has developed the COOE Green arm of COOE to provide a tangible rehabilitation service line for COOE to compliment our consultancy capabilities.
Sean's friendly approach and gentle leadership skills have been a significant bonus while on secondments in senior roles to mine sites. Sean has experience in highly sensitive community consultation including working with Community Consultative committee's and representing clients in a public relations capacity.
Since 2008 Sean has undertaken several long secondments to Australian Zircon, Mindarie Operations in the capacity of Environmental Superintendent.

Bill Bardsley: Dampier Coordinator - Principal Marine Scientist (Biosecurity)

billBill joined Cooe in March 2011 to coordinate our Dampier WA activities. Bill brings with him specialists skills in bio-security; he is one of a handful of Vessel Clearance Officers. His strong background in conservation management and oceanography are a great asset to Cooe.
Bill has a Bachelor of Science in Earth Science and Oceanography with a post graduate Diploma in Fisheries. Starting as a laboratory technician in 1991 Bill became a technical assistant on several fisheries research vessels with the NSW DPI eventually becoming the Principal Management Officer, Bio-security in the WA Department of Fisheries based in Perth WA.
In 2010 Bill took his family for a change to the warmer climate in Dampier and worked as a Vessel Clearance Officer finally joining forces with COOE.

Anna Waller: Senior Environmental Scientist (Cape Lambert)

anna waller webpixSince joining COOE Anna has undertaken several assignments including a larval fish survey for BHP Billiton at the proposed Port Bonython Desalination Plant, intertidal fauna survey for Santos and assisted with the Port Hedland marine monitoring program for Newcrest. Currently Anna is assigned to the Rio-Tinto Cape Lambert Project in Western Australia.

Anna has completed several long term secondments to the Australian Zircon, Mindarie Operations in the capacity of Environmental Officer.
Anna has prepared several environmental reports for our clients including Angas Zinc Mine, Mindarie Mine and prepared Environmental Management Plans and Monitoring Programs for the AquaFirst consortium bidding for the Adelaide Desalination Project. After completing her B.Sc.(Marine Biology) Anna worked in an analytical laboratory at the Prominent Hill Mine.

Andrew Koerber: Environmental Scientist

andrew kAndrew has a sound background in flora and fauna surveys. Andrew's planning and organisational skills are an asset to COOEs Project Management services. His experience in Australia's outback as a teacher for 20 years is also a valuable resource to COOE and our clients.
Andrew has been working on a casual basis for an environmental consultancy with an emphasis on fauna and flora monitoring projects. These projects have included fauna and flora surveys at the Prominent Hill Mine, Dukes Highway road-side vegetation surveys and providing background research for environmental reports.

As a part of his post-graduate research Andrew completed a number of ecological projects with a focus habitat change and bird roosting behaviour in relation to environmental weeds. Andrew's thesis is on the dispersal of invasive weeds by birds from the mainland to near-shore islands on the Yorke Peninsula.


Agnes Cantin: Environmental Scientist

agneswebphoto.1Agnès has over 5 years experience in environmental monitoring and has worked on several projects in the Coorong and Murray Mouth regions, rocky shore fauna survey for Santos and rocky shore monitoring throughout South Australia. Agnès has a sound knowledge of invertebrate identification, soft-sediment, rocky shore and mangrove monitoring, data analysis and laboratory experience. Agnès has experience in developing monitoring programs for community groups and with community consultation.
Agnès has recently completed her PhD from Flinders University on the commercially harvested mud cockle in the Port River. Agnès is experienced in project management and has prepared several reports and presentations for a wide range of audiences.

James Gilbert: Environmental Advisor

James joined COOE after a few years supervising commercial scale landscaping projects. James now is responsible for the implementation of revegetation programs designed by COOE mine rehabilitation specialists and keeps his skills current in environmental reporting preparing NPI reports and Quarterly Native Vegetation Management Plan Reports.

Venicia Giannasi: Environmental Scientist

Venicia brings to the team skills in laboratory analysis and field surveys on mine sites leading to government compliance reports and annual reports. Venicia has experience in water quality monitoring, rangeland, flora and fauna monitoring analysis of vegetation conditions and disturbance factors.

Venicia has experience in project coordination in major civil construction and revegetation projects. This work experience includes supervision of casual staff and team leaders, liaison with other project officers and stakeholders and all technical aspects of flora identification, weed management, revegetation seed collection and planting.


Ruan Gannon: Aquatic Biologist

nopicureRuan is a fish biologist with sound field and laboratory experience in marine and freshwater ecology. Ruan is currently reading for his doctorate but is available for short assignments.

Ruan recently completed a major larval fish survey with COOE for BHP Billiton on the Port Bonython Desalination Plant. He has also worked with COOE on a study of the effects of climate change on aquatic fauna, for the NRM Board.
